When traveling, the most frustrating issue isn't just having no signal—it's having "full bars" of 4G/5G while your maps, Instagram, or YouTube remain stuck on a loading screen.
This is often because your phone is connected to a carrier or network mode that isn't optimal for your current location. By adjusting these two simple settings, you can instantly improve your connection for a smoother journey!
Solution 1: Manually Select the Best Carrier
By default, your phone automatically connects to a network, but it doesn't always pick the best available service provider. We recommend turning off "Automatic Selection" and manually choosing our recommended carrier to boost stability.
For iPhone Users
-
Go to Settings → Cellular.
-
Tap your eSIM Travel Plan.
-
Tap Network Selection.
-
Toggle off Automatic → Wait for the list of available carriers to appear.
-
Refer to our "Global Carrier List" and manually select the carrier corresponding to your plan.

For Android Users (Google Pixel)
-
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
-
Tap your eSIM Travel Plan.
-
Tap Automatically select network (toggle it off).
-
Refer to our "Global Carrier List" and manually select the carrier corresponding to your plan.

Once configured, the issue of fluctuating speeds or "dead zones" in specific areas is usually significantly improved.
Solution 2: Switch Network Mode to 4G / LTE
While 5G is faster in theory, many areas still lack dense 5G base station coverage, leading to unstable connections. In these cases, switching your network mode to 4G/LTE often provides a much more consistent and reliable experience.
For iPhone Users
-
Go to Settings → Cellular.
-
Select your eSIM Travel Plan.
-
Tap Voice & Data.
-
Select 4G or LTE.

For Android Users
-
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
-
Select your eSIM Travel Plan.
-
Tap Preferred network type.
-
Select 4G or LTE.

Solution 3: Reset APN (Access Point Name) Settings
The APN settings serve as the digital bridge between your phone and the internet. Occasionally, residual settings from previous SIM cards or network configurations can cause a "data jam" where bars are visible but data doesn't move. Resetting the APN forces your device to pull the most accurate parameters for your Mars eSIM.
For iPhone Users
-
Go to Settings → Cellular.
-
Select your eSIM Travel Plan.
-
Tap Cellular Data Network.
-
Tap Reset Settings.

For Android Users (Google Pixel)
-
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
-
Select your eSIM Travel Plan.
-
Tap Access Point Names.
-
Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
-
Select Reset to default.
